Goats available to clear land

HORSE SHOE — Wells Farm has turned its goats into a land-clearing service, using them to clear difficult terrain of weeds and brush for landowners.

Goats prefer brush and weeds to grass and will eat invasive plants like kudzu, multiflora rose, bittersweet and privet, owner Ron Searcy said. They can clear rugged terrain that would be hard for humans to clear and don’t use noisy machinery, he says.

Searcy uses portable electric fencing powered by specially manufactured solar panels.

“Goats love eating these noxious weeds, and it’s a win-win for everyone,” Searcy said. “The customer’s lot is cleared off, and my herd stays happy and healthy. It doesn’t get any better than that.”
